Why does iConsumer ask for your social security number?

You don’t need to provide it to us unless either of the following applies to you:

First, if you want us to issue and transfer stock to you (and you're a U.S. resident).

Second, if you’ve earned more than $600 in bonuses (and you're a U.S. resident).

In those cases, the federal government requires us to have your SSN.
